MORE GOOD NEWS FOR THE MGCAC. THE EFFORTS CONTINUE TO PAY DIVEDENDS
On June 21, 2012, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (GA EPD), submitted a request to re-designate the Macon AREA fine particulate matter (PM2.5) non-attainment area to attainment for the 1997 annual PM2.5 national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS). They also asked EPA to approve a state implementation plan (SIP) revision containing a maintenance plan for the Macon Area. The Macon Area is comprised of Bibb County and a portion of Monroe County in Georgia. EPA published a notice in the Federal Register that they propose to approve the designation request and the related SIP revision for Bibb County and a portion of Monroe County, including GA EPD’s plan for maintaining
attainment of the PM2.5 standard in the Macon Area.
This is indeed good news and is the result of a lot of hard work by a lot of people. Thanks to everyone who has put their shoulder to the wheel. This new development gives all of us a little breathing room.
